Book Development is the main focus of this site, so most of the site’s pages will give you valuable information about what book development is and how it relates to you. But in the interest of homing in:
Writing from the Deeper Self is a unique and natural deep-writing process, where we listen to you together, and your writing emerges from that.
Book development is what happens when Writing from the Deeper Self is applied specifically to writing a book. Together, you and I listen your book out of you and see what it wants to be. Then we help it become that.
As an award-winning Book Developer, I know how to see the whole forming out of your rough written pieces, and to help you bring what’s emerging into beautiful, substantial form.
In addition to my deep-listening skills, I bring to this work over 30 years’ experience in the publications field as an editor, professional writer, and consultant.
I can help you realize your desire to write a beautiful, meaningful book that will grace your life even as you write it as well as once it is in print ~ while healing the world, reader by reader by reader. . .
What Naomi does superbly is to evoke the creative and articulate in each person who works with her, to such a degree that each one is surprised at his/her own talent for expression.”~ Gay Luce, Nine Gates Mystery School
For example: You might begin with an outline and flesh it out slowly, if you are a “top-down” kind of writer. But you also might begin with a resonant detail ~ an impression, an incident, a patchwork of what you know in hopes of netting what you don’t yet know ~ and work it out from the “bottom-up,” first laying down the concrete details and then backing up to see the larger patterns. This illustrates my first definition of Book Development (above): “To write a book (or any complete work) from beginning to end. (However, you can begin in the middle, as well.)”
There are ways to get into developing your book, but there is no one “right way.” There is only the way that feels true for you. And that’s a lot of what we seek to find out, together.
It’s not that you don’t have to ever leave your comfort zone. You do. But you also can put down roots where you really live, and start growing your book from there. Part of my job is to find out where your creative openings naturally exist, to shine a light on them, and to support you to follow your own way.
When you have a sense of something from within to follow, your book will develop because of what’s in you that you are following. It may take you on some twists and turns, but they will be good ones, perhaps even transformative ones. (And you thought you were setting out to write a book for your readers. Sure ~ but only after you have had the experience of being transformed, yourself, by what’s in you + what’s calling you.)
To “develop” a book is not an assignment. It is a concentration ~ an artwork ~ a practice of paying attention. You become your book’s gardener, and the light upon the plant, and the nutrient-rich soil, and the air into which the book moves forth and breathes. It is because you give yourself this kind of attention that your readers get the benefits. And it’s often much easier when you have a companion along the way to highlight the way the process is going, and help unearth new possibilities. That’s where I come in.

As I trust you will discover, the roses you stop to smell are in you.
When you get close to completing your book and start thinking about publishing, you will undoubtedly have a lot more questions and uncertainties to clarify than you do at this point. That’s fine.
My advice is not to think about this down-the-road part too much in the early stages. Over the course of your writing the book, you will instinctively know when it’s time to start paying attention to getting your book out into the world. At that point, you can have a conversation with me about your particular circumstances and wishes, and take things from there.
However, if having a conversation about publishing at this point would put your mind to rest and/or mental wheels into gear, feel free to contact me sooner rather than later. We can discuss it.
What’s important is that you trust that your book has a welcome in the world, and take the steps you are guided to take to make that happen. To learn more about this phase, see the Spark to Finish sub-page.

It’s your turn to be heard, now.
