For when you already have written a manuscript draft and want nonjudgmental, professional, inspiring guidance to help you take it to the next level.
If you are already at the point where you are considering manuscript evaluation ~ congratulations! You have already done the hardest part to get to this point.
Now that you have this much down in writing, you may be experiencing some frustration along with the triumph. That’s how it is when you know there’s something needed to bring the rough version of your manuscript into a seamless coherence that breathes on the page and needs nothing more in order to merit your “artist’s signature.” And it’s rare that the person who birthed this draft also has the distance and objectivity to see what is needed now.
That’s where I come in.I bring at least two qualities to your manuscript that help its raw ore reveal the diamond.
- Beginner’s Mind ~ Unlike with you, it’s all new to me. And in that irreplaceable moment of first impression, I can tell what does and doesn’t hang together ~ get a sense of what’s missing and what’s extraneous ~ see the overall pattern and how to thread the cohering motif through it ~ and make quite practical suggestions for making it all work (down to details like suggesting sidebars, pull quotes, heads and subheads, and the like).
- A Talent for Relating Personally~ If I can find the personal relevance to myself in your manuscript, I know your readers will be able to, as well. And if I can’t, then I know what questions to ask you so that your responses work to draw in my full engagement. It’s not that you need to please me with your manuscript; it’s that I’m the stand-in for your readers ~ your first and “prototype” reader. I’m very experienced in questioning (constructively) what an author has in mind, or could ~ and doing so in a way that spurs insights on the author’s part. Once your wheels are turning, you find your direction and usually feel better in the revision stage than you did when you first came to me.
I offer manuscript-evaluation services for authors of non-fiction, fiction, memoir, and narrative nonfiction. (If you have come up with a genre beyond these, I probably can help with that, too.)
When you’ve invested so much of yourself in writing your manuscript, it pays to have expert and sensitive feedback on both a bigger-picture, objective level and the small details that make up the reading experience.
Contact me to set up a conversation about your desires for you manuscript. Email me at email@example.com, or phone me at (510) 465-3935, Pacific Standard Time. If we are “on the same page” after our conversation, I’ll ask you to send me the manuscript by email. At that point, I will go through it summarily and give you a fee quote. Once you accept that, we are in business, and your manuscript evaluation will begin.

TESTIMONIALS from APPRECIATIVE CONTENTED AUTHORS:
If you ever need an expert second opinion and a gentle hand to help you with your manuscript, I highly recommend Naomi Rose.
“The scope of our work together was to have her give me an overview of what she thought of my second novel, The Spirit Bundle. She pointed out possible chapter reconstructions, the need for embedding character or scene descriptions earlier in the book, general syntax corrections, and much more.
“Those kinds of improvement strategies might have threatened some authors. Naomi presented each observation with supreme respect for my creative process and my author’s sensitivity to correction.
“Most everything she offered me has profoundly increased the quality of my tale.
“I am profoundly grateful for her knowledge and her caring for this project.” ~ Earlene Gleisner, RN, Reiki Master. Author, The Spirit Bundle (second volume in The Sacred Bundle quartet).
When I decided to dive into all the notes I had collected and really turn my outline into a book, Naomi Rose was an invaluable partner on the journey.
“She understood what I wanted to say, and made sure that my thoughts flowed smoothly. Her grasp of the book extended from the overall vision down to the details, and even in small ways—by completing a phrase or rearranging a sentence or paragraph here and there—she created an appealing whole out of the many ideas I had to share.
“Her insights and her gift for understanding my message raised my confidence so much. She shared my vision, and was genuinely excited about getting this book out into the world.
“The book is now changing lives, and finding its way into homes and hearts around the world. She offered the support I needed to create the book that I dared to dream was possible!” ~ Barbara Hanneloré, Founder and Mentor, Women’s Way Moon Cycles. Author, THE MOON AND YOU: A Woman’s Guide to an Easier Monthly Cycle. Finalist, Indie Excellence Book Awards; Silver Award, Living Now Book Awards.
